Hernan Barenboim is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. He provides therapy in Chicago, IL and Valparaiso, IN to couples, families, and individuals coping with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, chronic illness, stress, addiction, and more.
Therapy with Hernan is carried out in a comfortable and trusting environment. When he works with clients, Hernan creates a customized plan for therapy for each client. He will work to resolve underlying issues and promote positive, lasting changes
Hernan received his BA and MA from John F. Kennedy University, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is completing his Ph.D. in Medical Family Therapy from Saint Louis University. He has provided psychotherapy for individuals, couples, families, and groups since 1996. As Director of Behavioral Services at HealthLinc and as a therapist at Silhavy Place, Hernan worked very closely with patients, families, and caregivers during the treatment of medical chronic diagnoses such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and asthma. He also has extensive experience facilitating clients overcoming trauma, PTSD, and panic attacks.
Hernan specializes in medical family training and the behavioral aspects of chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, HIV, and cancer. He works from a systemic relational and psychodynamic orientation. In addition to his extensive psychotherapy background, Hernan has consulting and corporate training experience, with expatriates and integrated care. He offers workshops about intercultural communication and wellness, managing chronic stress, and integrated care. Hernan has bilingual fluency in Spanish and English.
Hernan is taking new patients at CCFH on Saturdays and he accepts BCBS insurance.
