Catherine Ford Sori

Catherine Ford Sori, LMFT, PhD teaches in the Families, Illness, and Collaborative Healthcare Program. She is a Full Professor in the Division of Psychology & Counseling at Governors State University in University Park, IL. She is the former Director of Children and Family Services at the Cancer Support Center in Homewood, IL.

Dr. Sori received her MS from Purdue University Calumet and her PhD from Purdue University West Lafayette, both in Child Development and Family Studies with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is also a past Fellow in the CCFH Families, Collaborative Healthcare Doctoral Fellowship Program. Dr. Sori is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a Clinical Member of AAMFT, and an AAMFT-Approved Supervisor.

Dr. Sori specializes in training counselors to work with children in family therapy, and treating children and families experiencing illness and bereavement. She is co-editor (with Lorna Hecker, Ph.D. & Associates) of The Therapist’s Notebook for Children and Adolescents: Homework, Handouts, and Activities for Use in Psychotherapy, Vol. 1 and 2; The Therapist’s Notebook on Integrating Spirituality in Counseling, Vol. 1 and 2(with Karen Helmeke, Ph.D.) (Haworth, 2006), and editor, Engaging Children in Family Therapy: Creative Approaches to Integrating Theory and Research in Clinical Practice (Routledge, 2006). She is currently working on The Therapist’s Notebook, Vol. 3.
