Counseling & Therapy
Fellows and Affiliated Therapists of the Chicago Center for Family Health provide counseling and therapy services for families, couples and individuals. This multi-disciplinary group of therapists has expertise in systems-oriented therapy, consultation and mediation.
Clinical Approach
Our collaborative, resilience-promoting approach identifies and builds on clients’ strengths, helping them to manage persistent stress and recover from life crises. Our goal is to enhance the functioning and well being of the families, couples and individuals with whom we work. CCFH Fellows and Affiliated Therapists are dedicated to serving a broad diversity of clients with respect for their unique challenges and belief in their potential for change and growth. We serve families of all socioeconomic classes, racial and ethnic backgrounds, and sexual orientations with a wide range of problems.
Areas of Expertise
CCFH Fellows and Affiliated Therapists provide comprehensive services including: case assessment and consultation; brief, problem-solving therapy; mediation; and intensive, long-term counseling to resolve a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and relational problems. Individuals, couple, family and group formats are offered.
We have particular expertise in helping families, couples and individuals:
- Repair troubled relationships
- Resolve couples’ concerns, including premarital and remarriage counseling
- Improve communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution
- Reconnect with estranged family members
- Address child and adolescent behavioral or school problems
- Recover from trauma and loss
- Navigate stressful life transitions: e.g., parenthood, adoption, job loss, relocation, and retirement
- Manage single parenting and stepfamily challenges
- Address women’s and men’s issues
- Address the concerns of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender clients and their families
- Handle drug and alcohol-related problems
- Address domestic violence and/or sexual abuse
- Balance work and family roles
- Manage and recover from multiple crises and stresses
Specialized Clinical Services
Families, Illness & Healthcare Counseling Services
A collaborative team in psychiatry, family medicine, nursing, psychology, and social work can help when a child, adolescent, spouse/partner, sibling, or parent is facing chronic and/or life-threatening illness, or disability. Counseling services are available for individuals, couples and families, addressing: caregiving and relationship challenges; loss of functioning with disability; threatened loss, death, and bereavement; cognitive impairment; couples’ issues of communication, intimacy, and sexual dysfunction; adjusting to new work and family roles; illness-related behavioral or school problems; challenges of growing older, helping aging parents. Counseling services are provided by CCFH Family-Based Collaborative Healthcare Doctoral Fellows, as well as our Affiliated Therapists.
Divorce Mediation, Custody Evaluation and Post-Divorce Services
CCFH Affiliated Therapists offer expert divorce mediation and custody evaluation services. They are also experienced in addressing issues related to post-divorce adjustment, visitation, relocation, remarriage and stepfamilies.
Fees
Self-pay, insurance, and Medicare payment are accepted. Fees are on a sliding scale for clients with limited resources.
Therapists
CCFH Affiliated Clinicians are members of the Core and Associate Faculty. They maintain practices in the CCFH Loop office, as well as in several Chicago neighborhoods and suburbs. Fellows in our Family-Based Collaborative Healthcare Doctoral Fellowship Program also provide counseling services at CCFH.
